Ma al caro Nick Pippi vogliamo solo ricordare il proverbio di Trapattoni: “no say the cat is in the sac when you have not the cat in the sac”.
Un abbraccio a tutti dal vostro stellissimo.

Mars Rover Snaps Stunning Self-Portrait

NASA put together this artsy image of Mars rover Opportunity getting a glimpse of its own shadow on the rim of Endeavour Crater. The robotic geologist used its panoramic camera to take about a dozen shots using an assortment of filters between about 4:30 and 5 p.m. Mars time on March 9.
The images were transmitted back to Earth where a team of scientists assembled them into this mosaic, which was released Wednesday.

Harder Road Surfaces Could Reduce Fuel Consumption

A new study by civil engineers at MIT shows that using stiffer pavements on the nations roads could reduce vehicle fuel consumption by as much as 3 percent a savings that could add up to 273 million barrels of crude oil per year, or $15.6 billion at todays oil prices. This would result in an accompanying annual decrease in CO2 emissions of 46.5 million metric tons. The study, released in a peer-reviewed report, is the first to use mathematical modeling rather than roadway experiments to look at the effect of pavement deflection on vehicle fuel consumption across the entire U.S. road network. A paper on this work has also been accepted for publication later this year in the Transportation Research Record.Read more: http://www.laboratoryequipment.com/news-Harder-Road-Surfaces-Could-Reduce-Fuel-Consumption-052412.aspx

A prophetic ad from 1962: Each Day Humble Supplies Enough Energy to Melt 7 Million Tons of Glacier!

The ad, which appeared in Life Magazine, reads:

This giant glacier has remained unmelted for centuries. Yet, the petroleum energy Humble supplies if converted into heat could melt it at the rate of 80 tons each second! To meet the nations growing needs for energy, Humble has supplied science to natures resources to become Americas Leading Energy Company. Working wonders with oil through research, Humble provides energy in many forms to help heat our homes, power our transportation, and to furnish industry with a great variety of versatile chemicals. Stop at a Humble station for new Enco Extra gasoline, and see why the Happy Motoring Sign is the Worlds First Choice!
